Widows Sons History

THE HISTORY OF THE WIDOWS SONS

The Widows Sons were first established in Illinois in 1998 when a group of Master Masons banded together to provide support for their widows and children. The Widows Sons are the largest Masonic organization of Freemason motorcycle riders in the world. Widows Sons are Masons first and prioritize the tenants and values of this ancient organization.

Freemasonry dates back to the late 14th century(Stone Masons)  and 1600's & early 1700's(Speculative Masonry). Organized modern Freemasonry started in 1717 when 4 London lodges joined to form the Grand Lodge of England, making it the oldest fraternity in the world. Historical Freemasons have included Paul Revere, Winston Churchill, Henry Ford, and Buzz Aldrin. Masons profess belief in a Supreme Being and devote themselves to a fraternity that emphasizes the three guiding lights; faith, hope, and charity. Masons utilize several customs and rituals throughout their meetings, and members gradually progress through a series of ranks. Freemasons are committed to philanthropy within their communities. The Widows Sons are a group within the Freemason society where members share their love of motorcycling within the overarching belief system of the Masons.

THE WIDOWS SONS’ WORLDWIDE INFLUENCE

The second chapter of the Widows Sons was founded in the Netherlands just months after the initial Illinois chapter was established. This quickly vaulted the Widows Sons to international status. Connecticut and Florida formed their own chapters in the subsequent years. All four of these original chapters are still in existence and the longstanding organization has only grown in the following decades. Today, the Widows Sons have chapters across four continents in 94 countries and a total of 48 states.

Our chapter is known as Dragon chapter of the Widows Sons in Serierville, Tennessee. Tennessee has a total of Eight chapters:

Dragon: Sevierville

Copper Head: Bristol/Tri-cites

Grand Chapter: Memphis

Dry Bones: Kingston

HillBilly: Robbins

Hiram’s Squires: Lynchburg

TanneHill : Nolensville

Today, our chapter focuses primarily on children’s charities. Members strive to raise awareness for important causes while attending public motorcycling events and rallies. The group has proven itself to provide a positive influence anywhere its chapters have been established.

The Widows Sons offer motorcycle enthusiasts a brotherhood that emphasizes good character and high moral tenants. Through dedicated participation in charity runs and events, the group maintains a positive image to the public and demonstrates its commitment to function as more than just a motorcycle organization.

Our mission

Our focus is to:

  • Contribute to the relief of our Widows, Orphans  & children’s charities
  • Introduce the sport of motorcycling to our Masonic Brothers
  • Raise Masonic Awareness in the world of sport motorcycling
  • Support our Blue Lodge through regular attendance and assisting with lodge events.
  • Represent the fraternity in a positive light at all times.
  • We are simply a Riding Association of Master Masons.
  • We are not territorial and do not condone illegal activities by our members.
  • Members are required to act in a way that will reflect well on our Association, Fraternity, and motorcycling in general.

Widows Sons have helped to increase Masonic membership through our public presence and visibility.

We are a billboard for Freemasonry and must govern ourselves accordingly at all times.

The Widows Sons have proven themselves to be a positive asset to the fraternity around the world. Many of our chapters are proud to have current and Past Grand Masters as members. We regularly attract new members to the fraternity, and several of our chapters have Degree Teams who volunteer in doing Masonic work for many Masonic Lodges whenever possible.

The important thing to note is that it is NOT the patch or logo we wear that unites us,  what unites us is the fact that we are Masons first, then Widows Sons.

If you are not a Mason and would like to get more information? Contact your local Masonic Lodge. Our motto is “2B1 ASK1“.
